Why Go to Church If It Does Not Make You a Better Person?

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Mat 16:18

The two questions above may sound cynical, but they are soul searching questions. And actually, Question one is answered by Question two.  Many of our churches will readily tell you that they do not tell you what is right or wrong.  Most do not denounce sin.  The reason why they do not do it is because they want to keep you coming.  They do not want to offend you.  However, if your children get on drugs, if you get a divorce or if you go to hell; you are going to be offended.  Their job is to keep you from having those terrible experiences by telling you how to have a wholesome family and life that is in line with your Creator.  If they cannot do that, their presence is wasted in your life.  You can actually enjoy social camaraderie anywhere.

When Abraham was called to serve God, his world was crazy.  His whole family was idol worshippers.  They did not know who God was. Cain, who killed his brother named Able, had started a world of murder and violence.  People sacrificed to all kinds of gods to get blessed.  They even sacrificed their children to try to provoke their gods to bless them.  They would murder each other if they wanted what you had.  There was no law and order.  People did whatever they wanted or could get away with, much like today.

From that crazy world, God saw a man named Abraham and called him away to have a better life.  His crops grew and his flocks multiplied.  His wife loved him like a god (obeyed Abraham, calling him lord – 1Pe 3:6).  He had land, money, honor and he pleased his God.  Serving his God, blessed his life.  If going to your church and trying to serve your god does not make your life better, why are you going to that church?  Our world today looks pretty much like life before Abraham met his God; and, yet, we have more knowledge of our God today than Abraham initially had.

Pastors today cannot promise you much of anything but that you will feel good while you are there.  They all will tell you God loves you, but often cannot show you God.  God is not things.  The Lord will show up where the believers are. God is what Abraham had:  a changed life and fellowship with Someone who promises to help you and never leave you.  God loves His pastors and I love God’s pastors, too; but they are few and far between today.

Our world is chaotic because too many churches have failed to do their job in showing you your Savior.  Jesus makes life better spiritually first and then everything around you becomes better or more tolerable until God improves it.  If your neighborhood and our world are full of churches and life has gotten worse, something is wrong.  If the gospel has gone worldwide and preachers are using jets to fly the gospel good news around the world to preach 24/7 and we are still on the verge of world war and destruction; something is wrong.

There is nothing wrong with God or His Son, Jesus.  God has not changed. He is still available to save and make life better.  Jesus will shower you with His love and make you feel free, even if you are in jail.  If you are being swindled in a “church”, you need to ask yourself why.  You should not be putting up with a false religion or gods when the Real God provides real help.  If you want to see our world improve and our lives improve, if you want to be surely saved; you must come out from among the wicked like Abraham did and find the True God of Love.  Jehovah God was with Abraham to teach him the right way to live, and He was with Abraham through every trial.  God fulfilled every promise to Abraham, even keeping His word after Abraham’s death to bless his family.  What a God!

If you are supporting false gods and teachers, you should leave and find the True God like Abraham did. Pray to God in Jesus name and ask Him to save you.  Then ask Him to lead you to the right place for help and fellowship.  How do you know what is true? 

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:  And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 1Jn 4:1-3

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
