Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3Jn 1:2
Our nation needs healing but where do we find understanding to reverse the damage done and get back on track. There is always an answer and a cure because there is a miraculous God who cares for us. Paul’s prayer was: And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1Th5:23). God wants us to be fully healthy in our spirit, our body and our soul or mind. We must reach out to the God over the universe to get His benefits for help and healing. He alone understands the depth of our need, even now.
The Source of Help
Leaders continue to state that America has a problem that no other nation has. The situation in the recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, has broken the spirit of a city as they grieve the loss of their children and teachers. I listened to the full report and it was too much; but I continued to listen till the end to hear the city leaders’ summation of the crisis. They concluded that the people of their city will need mental health assistance for the foreseeable future to deal with the trauma. It is interesting to see the height of some people’s understanding. They concluded that there was something within the human ability that could heal the broken hearts of the people of that city. Who has the mental capacity to pour that much healing into that many people who need it: no one? No mental health clinician is able to explain why a young man saw fit to kill his own grandparent and then go out and destroy the lives of so many other people. No one can provide the inner healing needed or explain the intimidate workings of his mind on that day. If someone could explain his mindset that day, how would that knowledge help?
Divine Help
There is someone that has explained it for all of us. He did so in our bible.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isa 26:3
A mind devoid of God is capable of anything because the enemy of our soul (Satan) has access to it and can turn the mind whichever way he will. Our only protection from that is to let God guard our minds from the enemy. God explained the blessings and consequences of our actions through His word. A disobedient mind comes under the authority of the devil. Why did Cain rise up and kill his brother? It was first the disobedient mind of his parents and then his own. It was the results of breaking God’s law of love. All of us since that time are under the curse placed on the first parents. Reading Deuteronomy 28:15-68 will break your heart but it will also give you an understanding of what our nation is experiencing as the consequences of our sin against God. These are some of the things your pastor may not want to teach you and you may say well that is Old Testament. It is Old Testament; but when you refuse to accept and obey Christ, that is your law.
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Joh 3:36
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Rom 1:18
Apostle Paul taught: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom 6:23). We do not get to choose where that penalty falls. Those that do not have Christ are still under the wrath of God. I am not talking about those children that loss their lives or even the teachers. Just as a house can have either the blessing or curse upon it, so can a city, state or nation have the blessing or curse upon it because of whom they have allowed to be their god. A house that has Satan as lord over it will suffer much loss. A state or nation that rejects the True God will suffer the consequences. We need righteous leadership at every level of our life because it brings God’s blessings to that dwelling. The story of the difference between the reign of King Saul and King David gives us an example of how this works. Read about their lives and reign in the books of Samuel. King Saul disobeyed God and the curse came upon him (1Sa 13:13) and his kingdom but King David brought God’s blessings upon that same kingdom once Saul was gone. So it is important that we and our leaders obey God.
Based on scripture we can expect disaster to continue in our nation as long as our leaders fail to acknowledge or serve God and while citizens refuse to chasten or remove them. That does not necessarily refer to our present President because the dam broke under President Trump as he casted aside rules and protocols to do his own will. We are still suffering the repercussions of his past administration. The devil expected free reign in the nation with Trump as president and he is trying to continue what he started with the open door that has not been shut against him. Once hatred is introduced in a society, it must be broken by the opposing spirit of love.
Our Intervention
Each of us will have to do our part to pray and be used as a vehicle to bring the healing power of God through loving each other. The church and Christians should have the understanding about how good and evil works in our environment and we have to take the lead to pray down strongholds. We also have the responsibility to vote out or remove bad leaders who do not honor God in religious or civic leadership. We have to say like Joshua:
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Jos 24:15
When we let down the wall as an individual or group, the enemy will come in. So our responsibility is to pray and serve God for our wellbeing and that of others. Our prayers can reach the hardness of heart that appears to reside in congressional leaders who refuse to act to prevent further devastation. They appear to have put their financial needs above the wellbeing of children and will not put a check on the gun lobby. The good news is that as long as you serve the Lord Jesus, He promises to keep you and your household. Good people do suffer loss, but the grace of God is always in the midst to comfort the believer and take him through it. Our prayers can cover our house, city, state and nation.
Let’s pray: Father God, you are good and your mercy endureth forever. Have mercy upon us at this hour even though we have failed you. Comfort those that have suffered loss as only you can. We pray that you will bring healing to our hearts and to our homes. Please heal our nation. Touch the heart of all mankind that we will consider you and the sacrifice Jesus made for us. Let your presence renew and strengthen your children to represent you in the earth through the love you give. We ask these blessings in the precious name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
