For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isa 9:6
The coming of the Messiah to earth reveals the goodness of God and His favor toward mankind. Christ’s coming to earth and dying in our place for sin represents the restoration of Adam and Eve’s lost authority. Mankind was given righteous authority over earth until they lost it to Satan who deceived them and gained what was theirs. God saw the plight of man as he was being subjected to the devil’s power.
And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. Isa 59:16-17
Christ was not only willing to put off his glory in heaven to come to earth but He was also willing to lay down His earthly life through a torturous ordeal to set mankind free.
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; Isa 61:1-2
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. Joh 10:17-18
Christ’s coming and sacrifice on the cross gave descendants of the first family back their power plus the ability to kick Satan out of their domain.
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Lk 10:19
How Does Mankind Exercise This Power?
After being crucified, Jesus ascended back to heaven; but He sent the Holy Spirit in the earth as His representative to set mankind free. Each human being now has the authority within his mouth (Rom10:9) to live for Jehovah God through accepting Jesus Christ. Jesus, as the Head of the church, resides in heaven; but believers in the earth, as His body, carries out the bidding of our Lord. The coming of Christ to earth and empowering mankind means that Christ’s power is no longer limited to just a single representative from heaven doing the bidding of the Father but now Christ and His power is multiplied by every believer in the earth (Mt. 10:16).
Within mankind is the ability to be used of God or Satan and it is our right to choose whom to obey. Both are spirit beings, but Father God is the maker of all things and Satan is subject to God’s power. Created as Lucifer, a good angel in heaven (Ez. 18-15), he made himself evil by choice when he led an insurrection in heaven. That choice of good or evil is before us as well and we must choose whom to follow.
How Do We Deal with Evil Today?
When Lucifer was kicked out of heaven, he came down to the earth, where he preys on the vulnerability of mankind regardless of age, gender, position or ethnicity. Through temptations, mankind may be persuaded to follow the bidding of the evil one. Remember, it is a choice. Christ’s coming and providing believers power on earth means that they have the ability to curtail and squash Satan’s power by the power of God through Christ. It would be sad if those powerful believers sat back in fear and let Satan torment earth. It is sad to say that in many cases that indeed seems to be happening. The powers of God work by faith and it is up to us to keep our faith strong and then step forward in faith to defeat the power of the enemy and accomplish our assignment in the army of the Lord. Do not be deceived into thinking that you have to wait on some kind of leader to stand up against Satan for you. God gives to every believer power to resist the evil one. You can tell the devil he is a liar and choose to obey the spirit of God that is available for each of us. When you call on Creator God through the Savior, Jesus Christ; God defeats Satan’s power and places His Holy Spirit within you.
How Did We Get to Where We Are Today in the Nation?
The founders of the nation were well versed in civil, legal, and religious truths and were wise enough to dedicate the nation to God’s authority. They were willing to risk their lives in defiance of the royal crown by going to war to establish individual rights to worship God without the intrusion of a state church. Though we are seeing the trend of some present leaders willing to go back to European traditions, they are not willing jeopardize their necks like the founders; but they, nevertheless, are causing erosion of the nation’s foundation.
The devil, who sought to take over heaven from God and rose up with a multitude of angels to bring anarchy to heaven, is using subterfuge to bring anarchy in the earth. Lucifer and his evil spirits have persuaded mankind and particularly those in power to let evil rule through mounting lies that bring chaos and confusion. Remember Satan knows the weakness of individuals that he had previously controlled, but God has sovereign control of all creatures.
America in Peril
The nation of America made a vow to God that in Him we would trust to rule over its people. Satan is trying to make America renege on that vow and to promote anarchy like he started in heaven. Americans have become confused with calling good evil and evil good. With those warped morals it has become easier to persuade them to do the enemy’s bidding. The best example of this is the insurrection on January 6th against the nation’s seat of power. Satan, who started an insurrection against God’s authority of heaven, also started an insurrection against God’s leadership authority in America. What could have easily been discerned as evil against good, was further confused by mixing of religious leaders with despots against God’s representative authority in government leadership. Because people had already made a decision about who represented God’s will, the waters became even muddier through this struggle for power. Satan loves to take that which is devoted to good and corrupt it for evil. America has never been pure but it was dedicated to God by the founding fathers that chose God over Satan as ruler. A vow made to God is a blood covenant that can only be broken by blood. This fight is one fought between God and Lucifer but it is working through the lives of those they control. Blood is being shed over this covenant.
In America, where Christian faith has played a pivotal role, people have both the civil right to speak up for righteousness and the Christian responsibility to represent righteousness because of Christ’s call upon them to do so. Every Christian individual has a responsibility to represent Christ and that means that everywhere that the evil one pops up, a child of God should stand in the gap to represent Christ (Mt.5:14) and what He would do in that place. That is the position that the church has failed to convey to many believers and why our nation of Christians seems to be losing ground.
Returning to a Tender Heart
I wrote in a previous article that God keeps taking America to church through the death of famous people who are memorialized in the nation’s large churches and cathedrals. During the latest such national event, I felt my heart breaking because I think I had reached the sensitivity that God is looking for in all of us. As they described in this event a person whom they believed was a great man that had served his country well, I reflected on a recent family loss and the state of our nation.
Family is what God gave us to practice the love and care He, Himself, has for us. How we treat each other is a witness of how we feel about God because we give others a sampling of the love and favor that the Father has given us. If we have not felt loved, we cannot give love. If we have been overwhelmed with love, we share much love. My heart was breaking in that moment as I looked on the state of our being as a people. I looked spiritually and saw the chaos in our politics which is a reflection of the feelings we hold as a nation for each other. I looked at my personal family and the gaps as death has come and broken the circle.
Through family is how we learn to express God’s love personally and outwardly in the community. We, as the family of God, express love first in our personal family, then in our church, and also to community and strangers. Our work in the community and world is the outward extension of how we have been taught in our homes and churches to show the love of God. We have an opportunity to share that love with strangers who may have never known Him and who may never get to know Him without our witness. With that thought in mind, I look back at family and community at large and ask how we are doing in our witnessing for Christ and sharing His love with others. Again my heart breaks because I know it is not well. Corruption has infiltrated our unions. As my heart breaks and my soul weeps in a spirit of intercession like at the beginning, I know I feel only a little bit of what the Lord must be feeling about our people. I believe God’s heart is breaking over our lack of care for one another. We can do better.
The word of God says: “A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth (Ecc 7:1).” At death, we reminisce about the good days that have passed. God often in scripture tries to get wayward people to look back and remember when our heart was tender toward Him and others. God wants us to always walk in that tenderness of heart because He is there. I remember during times of prayer in the beginning of my faith when God would show me my heart and the hearts of others as He disclosed the state of our world, I cried a soul cry that did not want to end and because it hurt so badly, I thought it would never end. It may be God wanted me to remember that soul cry again as I grieved over the condition of my world and our world. Maybe God is trying to get us all to have a soul cry over our condition. Our nation is in peril because the love of many has waxed cold and many do not seem to care as it approaches a dangerous cliff. Some perhaps are planning for its default and their benefit from the remnants. How we care for the world He entrusted to us is a reflection of how we care for our God. If we have ever felt His love for us, we ought to express love for others and it will be returned as a memorial to the Father who gave it. However we conduct ourselves is an expression and witness of whom we serve.
In the event I mentioned above, someone reminded the group of a statement about the importance of life being represented by the dash between your birth date and your death date. That period of time is our availability to represent God and we do it best when we know Jesus Christ as our Lord. We translate the love of Father God to others through the impact of Christ’s empowerment upon us. Our world is helped and healed through our letting Christ impact it through us. That is the reason Christ came on assignment from the Father to empower us to make a difference in our world. How we are doing reflects on the effectiveness of the Lord’s work; and He is no failure.
While people sit around and discuss how bad things may be going in our nation, I would like to remind everyone that is the reason Christ came: to empower you to do something about it. What are you doing with that empowerment? There is no savior coming, riding on a white horse to save America. He has already come, sitting on a donkey to give you a voice and power to make an impact on the world. Those waiting on a strong man to come and fix the problems may find themselves being deceived like the January 6 insurrectionists against the Capitol. A strong man willing to answer the sinner’s cry for power is the antichrist. Jesus comes to first save us through revealing our sinful nature and then living within us as our personal Savior. Our personal and national challenge is to put away self-will and return to Christ. Jesus Christ, the Savior, already came and left for every individual believer the ability to put down Satan, who is the cause of all that is evil. When we each listen to the Head, Jesus Christ, our Savior and obey His voice to put down all disobedience and fulfill our role and assignment from Christ; then “We, the people,” the family of God prevails and so does Christ. If your church did not teach you this truth, then read John Chapter 17 in its entirety for yourself and hear Jesus state that He chooses to send you empowered by the Holy Spirit in the earth (Joh 3:7-8) to work in His stead until He comes finally to defeat the evil one. Christmas gives us time to consider the purity of Christ, the life He lived for us and to examine our need to be more like Him. If you are not Spirit-filled, receive Christ in the form of the Holy Spirit and serve Him in hope and power. The good news this season is…
